Not sure if US media is covering the hostage situation in Sydney, but wanted to let everyone know that we’re safe. Prayers for all those involved. Feel free to email us if you want to check in. Xoxo
After a four-hour drive down the coast, we made our way to the city of Port Macquarie. It’s a pleasant beach town with a lively waterfront. They also have a koala hospital, which was our first up-close experience with the gentle animals.
Earlier today we packed up and headed out of the Gold Coast. Our plan is to be in Sydney by Monday, so we’re splitting the drive into a couple day trips. We started with an hour drive inland to visit the Springbrook National Park rainforest and take a hike to the park’s natural bridge.
We spent today snorkeling at Lady Elliot Island, which is located at the southern edge of the Great Barrier Reef.
After a long flight over the Pacific Ocean, we finally arrived in Brisbane, Queensland. We grabbed our rental car and headed an hour down the beach to Surfers Paradise.
In preparation for our adventure Down Under, and on the recommendation of several work colleagues and friends, I read In a Sunburned Country by travel author Bill Bryson.
One of my favorite parts of the book was his explanation of traveling over the International Date Line, and since I would never be able to compete with his version, I thought I’d share it with you as we head out on our long journey to the other side of the world.
One of Drew’s best friends, Chip, turned 40 this year, and he organized a Las Vegas trip to celebrate. Nearly 50 of Chip’s nearest and dearest flew out for the party. Shout out to Chip for being an awesome party planner and host.
We celebrated our second anniversary with a fancy spa getaway to the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina.
We decided to celebrate our first anniversary in the Big Apple, because if you’re going to celebrate a winter wedding then there’s no better place to freeze your butt off than New York City.
Y’all know by now that we love Hyatt properties. On this trip we used our points to get a room at the Grand Hyatt New York, which is conveniently located in midtown Manhattan at Grand Central Station.
The final stop on our honeymoon was Spain’s capital, Madrid, where we had three days to explore the city.
