Earlier today we packed up and headed out of the Gold Coast. Our plan is to be in Sydney by Monday, so we’re splitting the drive into a couple day trips. We started with an hour drive inland to visit the Springbrook National Park rainforest and take a hike to the park’s natural bridge.
After spending the morning exploring Springbrook, we took a long scenic route through the mountains into New South Wales. We stopped for lunch in Byron Bay, which is a total hippie town – think Asheville on the beach, then took back roads through farmlands and cow pastures to the quaint beach community of Yamba. The hotel we’re staying at has a family of kangaroos that live nearby, and we were able to walk right up to them! Here are some pics from today’s adventures:
Tomorrow we’re driving further south to Port Macquarie. It has an animal sanctuary so fingers crossed we’ll get to hug a koala!
