After a four-hour drive down the coast, we made our way to the city of Port Macquarie. It’s a pleasant beach town with a lively waterfront. They also have a koala hospital, which was our first up-close experience with the gentle animals.
Before we get to the koalas, here are some pics of today’s trip from Yamba to Port Macquarie:
Now back to the koalas. Unlike a zoo, the Koala Hospital takes in injured and sick koalas and nurtures them back to health. There’s no human interaction so they can eventually be rereleased into the wild. The organization is operated by volunteers and funded through donations.
Located nearby to the koala hospital is a historic Victorian home called the Roto House, which is quite beautiful.
Then we explored around Port Macquarie and ate some amazing Thai food for dinner. Noms.
Tomorrow we arrive in Sydney, and we can’t wait to explore the city!
