Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints? Who dat?
When the New Orleans Saints made it into Superbowl XLIV, we immediately booked a hotel room in New Orleans’ warehouse district. If the Saints were going to grab their first Superbowl win then we wanted to be a part of the hometown celebration. Oh yeah, and it was the first weekend of Mardi Gras…
We met up with Drew’s Peacecorps buddy, Pete, and his wonderful wife, Janine.
Parade detours throughout the French Quarter. But we weren’t complaining.
Here’s Julia and Drew hanging out on Julia St.
One of the few places where you order a beer and the bartender asks “for here or to-go?”
More parade fun with Jules.
Typical Bourbon Street Mardi Gras craziness.
The one-and-only Cafe Du Monde
Mmmm beignets and chicory coffee. We also ate at an awesome oyster bar and had po boys at a local dive, but I didn’t take any pics. You’ll just have to take my word for it – the food in NOLA is great.
The bar where we watched the Superbowl.
Some locals we made friends with – please note the jester. He told me and Jules that he had $50,000 riding on the game.
THEY WON! Bourbon Street erupts with cheering, strangers embracing and makeshift bands weaving in and out of the crowd.
Definitely a once in a lifetime experience. Love the music, love the food, love the people – just totally love New Orleans. server headers Who dat!
